Thus striking terror to the core of a large ethnic minority!

One of the notable impressions that I brought away from my visits in Malaysia was a significant bitterness towards the governmentally edicted special favoritism regarding the people of Bumi heritage. I heard it expressed a number of times in different places. I don't think a political showtrip is enough to overcome that level of resentment and may in fact result in a backlash.

On the Malaysian elections, it would be interesting to see how the Chinese in Penang votes. Penang is the only state in Malaysia where the Chinese voters form a majority. From memory, control fluctuates between the two Chinese dominated parties, one opposition and one pro-government. From memory, Anwar's consituency was in Penang.
