Penni, what a great kid. You surely must be proud. Since you are passing on words of advice to CW please convey these thoughts from me.

CW, it's easy to figure out the system of education in order to get a decent grade. This teacher always focuses on that area, grades this way and so forth. Grades in College are meaningless.

Education involves the law of the farm. You wouldn't plant the corn at the last minute and expect immediate results. Education is like that. Most students figure out the system in order to get a good grade. The one thing lacking is they never became *educated* in the process. They are learnED, but not educated. Use this time wisely, study hard, but never forget to challenge the assumptions of the information provided and go the extra mile to become educated. "Double loop" learning separates the ones who are there to get a grade, from the ones who truly educate themselves.

He's taking French Pass-Fail?

Good thing we're sending him off to college to learn
a few things. By the end of the semester, he will
certainly realize that he should have used his one
P-F to barely get by in some arduous course that is
required for his not-yet-declared major.

While French is a fine choice for his meeting-babes class,
and he won't want to actually work at it, the course hardly
deserves the high honor of a Pass-Fail declaration.

Trust me on these matters....while you cutie-pies were
sitting in the second row giggling and blowing kisses
to the prof; I was drinking scotch, playing foosball,
sleeping in, and getting laid. And III still graduated with
a quite respectable GPA from the (ahem) best college in America*.

Yessss, please remember to pass this on to CW. I will be
glad to set him on the one true path to enlightenment.
On the other hand, the true path to enlightenment is rarely
conveyed via Mom. Or when it is, it is not recognized for
many years.

* Well, best according to US News anyway, but I don't remember
any of their reporters auditing P-Chem...

ps: What was CW's email address again?
