Interesting brief comment on tele-capacity between US and Japan (from quarterly earnings statement of Japanese ISP IIJ):

iij.ad.jp

"With respect to the international network, IIJ anticipates a tight supply situation for leased lines, given the limited capacity of telecommunications networks between Japan and the United States, which is expected to continue pressuring IIJ's gross margin until the end of fiscal year 1999. Going into fiscal year 2000, however, international backbone costs are expected to drop significantly due to a massive supply of U.S.-Japan large-capacity undersea cables which are expected to come into service."
