The main reason LASIK is done is less temporary discomfort and faster 20/20 vision, not concerns over Bowman's membrane, according to the docs with whom I've spoken.

But you're right, the LT effects of zapping away Bowman's are unknown...but I prefer that to living with the uncertainty about LT effects of a flap which never completely seals except around the periphery.
