>>So where is 3Com in all this?

With the advice of a wizened old dog <g>, I set up the same network in my house. Each PC is connected to an ethernet network. If anyone tries to access the Internet, the host W98v2 machine (the only one with a modem) will dialup an ISP connection if it doesn't already exist - everyone shares the same connection, and it routes the packets to and from the correct client. It doesn't support domain service like an NT server would, but it is annoying simple to set up and maintain. I also installed Timbuktu on each machine so I could can observe/control (for support, of course!) or exchange files with each machine.

So, where is 3Com in this? Maybe in the NICs and perhaps in the modem, but that's about it.
