Contingency Plans: Unpublished, Unknown, and Vital

<< Y2K is systemic. It cannot be fixed. I have been saying this for three years. Now, we find that leaders are saying y2k will not be fixed. They call on organizations to make contingency plans.

But contingency plans for what? If all that we are facing is a 72-hour disruption, then it is foolish for businesses to prepare for anything worse. It is inefficient and wasteful.

Most businesses will do what most people are doing about y2k: nothing. They will procrastinate. They may tell reporters that they have contingency plans, but they will not publish these plans. I have yet to locate a single y2k Website that reveals an organization's contingency plans, or even a detailed outline. >>
