9-9-99 is not like 8-8-88. 9-9-99 was/is used in some data bases as an end of file marker. There were some reports of data bases being erased due to the 9-9-99 problem in some Y2K tests. I doubt if the mainline financial industry will be affected, as this problem should have been one of the first ones identified and fixed. But we shall see.
