Kendall: Oy! Alan Greenspan and his buddies are sitting around a table in Jackson Hole this morning wondering why upping interest rates don't knock down the terribly overvalued and irrationally exuberant stock prices. This stopped today's up moves in their tracks, induced some selling. Somewhere in the crowd around that table someone is gonna say "Hey, how 'bout Regulation-T"? What's Regulation-T" some wag says. "Why that's the regulation that allows us, the Fed to raise and lower margin requirements. They've been at 50% for 25 years now. Let's bump 'em up to 55% or 60%. That'll put a stop to this crazy market." Lotta heads nodded. (Lee)
