I've said for a long time, I don't think the Y2k problems will come from "technology failures" as much as fear or the reactions by those who think there will be technology failures and will take advantage of the situation.

Hi Rarebird; Regarding that 6% of the population that is going to get into cash for Y2K...

Do you remember the figures for trading volume on the October 1987 debacle? It seems to me it was something like 3% of total shares in existence. The upshot is that the stock market is a hell of a lot less liquid than most people believe it is. It is simply not possible for the market to absorb a couple of percent of the population selling stocks without dropping the market price by a much larger percentage.
