re: "joe 6-pack" I know several "joes" and their portfolio is running around 120-200K with nothing currently in any direct precious metals related vehicle. A great many have no such investment vehicle(gold fund or preccious metals fund) even available, & I believe here-in lies a very large part of the "manipulation story". I believe the only reason the XAU is even at the at current (depressed) levels is due to inclusion of ABX, NEM, HM (ASA?) in the S&P 500 & the impact & use of index 500 funds in today's broad market. The "good news"(if any can be found in this sad tale) is a great many "joes" are 100% in the S&P 500 index funds.
