I think you could write a good story if they were not the same person, using them as examples of the stock market mania of the late 20th century.

When I was a teenager, I knew a few people whose shaky grasp of reality was broken when they used hallucinogens. The kidney guy and Barton both remind me of those guys who flipped out after taking STP or bad acid.

Even us fairly normal folks sometimes stop and reflect that the best explanation for some market movements must sound to outsiders like loony conspiracy theory, complete with black helicopters and aluminum-foil covered hats. Imagine what it does to people who are a few sandwiches short of a picnic.

Edit: I just read Thomas M.'s post that Barton did fry his brain on bad drugs as a teenager. Didn't realize that was the case, he just looked and acted like someone who lost his mind on bad drugs. I knew I should have gone to med school.<g>
