Bob, I have talked with a lot of people on the subject of lost circulation and gas/oil/water contacts.

Firstly, I must point out that in spite of what we have been told by certain parties (and I was negligent in hastily putting this on the thread), the E-logs that were run do not conclusively show that fracturing was vertical in orientation, nor that the two sands are in communication. The JVs are agreed that there is a very good chance that the reservoir is heavily fractured and at least the top 3 sands are in communication. This is just an educated guess at this point.

This area isn't my forte, but in talking with many people who are paid to live this stuff daily, they are agreed that it is unlikely that water was present in any of the drilled section.
They tell me that a water lag in the drilled section would increase the hydrostatic gradient and make it easier to drill through. The fact that they kept losing circulation almost instantly when they resumed drilling indicates both excellent porosity and insufficient hydrostatic gradient to support the mud column.

As I say, I don't fully understand the theories behind this idea. They have been told to me by friends and family in the industry, outside of the ELH group.

If anyone, such as our own Grayhairs, can expound upon the idea, I am sure we would all welcome the extra input.

Are we all even more confused now??? LOL

Have a good weekend,
S&P
