You make a good point that the best tech does not always win. Microsoft is a perfect example in the operating systems area. It was quite well known that IBM's OS/2 was superior to Windows in many respects (like reliability, true 32 bit design, etc), but we all know what occurred. I heard that IBM spent more that 1B on OS/2. I used to run both operating systems at home and OS/2 did not crash like Windows, was faster, etc. However, each time I was in the market for a new PC attached device, I had to be sure drivers were available for OS/2. Today, it's a moot point. In some ways that is too bad, because consumers would benefit from some competition here. Look at what happened with MPU pricing once AMD took a chunk of the retail market....
