EchoStar Acquires UK Digital Design Firm
8/27/99 Strengthening its presence in Europe, EchoStar (Littleton, CO) has purchased Eldon Technology Ltd., a digital electronics design firm based in Bradford, UK, for $9 million.

EchoStar, which manufactures its own hardware for its DBS services, plans to use technology from Eldon for its digital set-tops and reference designs for DBS technology in DTV sets. Established in 1988, Eldon has 70 employees covering product design, research, and development.

?Eldon Technology Ltd. brings years of experience and success in designing digital televisions and set-top boxes in the European marketplace and will serve as an important tool for EchoStar,? says Mike Dugan, president of EchoStar Technologies, the division that manufactures DBS hardware for the company.
