The small position I own in COMS was bought at the bottom, but stayed at the bottom <g>.

I Think TLAB could learn a lesson from CSCO, not to be deterred by what others will think. I respect TLAB mgmt, and know that they would not have abandoned the CIEN merger unless they didn't have the votes. Now, however, that circumstances have changed, TLAB should not be afraid to talk again with CIEN. The irony is that this is being seen as a plus for CIEN, due to valuation comparisons, when in reality it's a much bigger threat for them as a smaller company unless the get acquired.

CIEN should be feeling the urgency as much as TLAB. And there may be other "Montereys" out there for TLAB, but there are a limited number, and the list of CIEN dance partners has grown mighty short.

That said, TLAB can continue to grow and prosper through their own development (possibly including DWDM). I do not think CIEN can grow fast enough to become a big time player given the competition.
