DALLAS, Aug 27 (Reuters) - CompUSA Inc. CPU.N, the
nation's largest computer retailer, will fit its
CompUSA-branded PCs with software to connect to America Online
Inc.'s AOL.N Internet service, the companies said on Friday.
Financial terms of the pact were not disclosed.
Under the deal, CompUSA will install a button on its
keyboards that offers direct access to AOL software, which will
be pre-loaded on the computers.
CompUSA, which will continue to offer a $400 rebate on PCs
to customers who buy a three-year subscription to AOL-owned
CompuServe Internet service, will also offer 24-hour technical
support service to AOL and CompuServe members.
Under the deal, CompUSA and AOL will develop training
classes on how to use the software in CompUSA stores.
Shares of America Online were off 13/16 at 99-3/8 on Friday
on the New York Stock Exchange, while shares of CompUSA were up
1/8 at 7-1/4.
