It was an even bigger disaster for India because they didn't even anticipate that an intrusion of that sort would happen. Apparently, they were pre-occupied with their sabre-rattling and harassing and intimidating their own minority citizens.

Compared to many nations who have been independent for 52 years and have inherited the conditions, and problems that india has, india has done well, but not as well as we would have wanted it to.

Which is kind of wishy-washy. Neither here nor there. The key question is -- are we seeing changes that are at least taking the country in the right direction? The answer is an emphatic "no" -- an answer that only gets more and more and even more resounding with each passing year.
