An interesting article today said T had signed letters of intent with Nortel and LU to upgrade their TDMA network with the latest technology. I called the author of the story and he said that it would not be an upgrade to CDMA . Hmmmmmmmmm.

I find that hard to believe especially since Nortel and LU are the leaders in CDMA infrastructure. However, that may be why Q tanked.

I am looking into this further, but it seems that with Nortel and LU in there, CDMA 3G is still a possibility, if not a necessity. The question is, could T upgrade their system to 3G without using cdma? I think not, but maybe they do not anticipate the wireless phone data market to be that large, and they are doing the minimum cost solution to eliminate the TDMA capacity constraints.

It could also be that they are posturing to get Q to lower cdma licensing fees for Nortel and LU.

Who knows?
