Which they are. Of course, they don't run for elections on their own. They hold the strings of the BJP.

In contrast the RSS, Shiv Sena, ..., all lost heavily in Maharasthra, their strong hold. In fact it's the Shive sena that is piggy back riding the BJP and not the reverse as it had been in Maharastra.

Yes, considering that they have nothing to show for their stint in office, it is no surprise to see them trying to cash in on the not-so-tarnished image of a few moderates in the BJP. They are probably afraid the sh*t will hit the fan right now. Well, if it doesn't happen now, it will happen later, when things have gotten even worse (I know it is hard to conceive of such a scenario, but in India, anything is possible!)
