A final post script to the idea of a weekly series of lotteries to dispose of the Gold the Bank of ENGLAND wants to exchange for other assets.
I wonder if England has a capital gains tax on lottery winnings? If they did they would end up with quite a higher price for their gold.
If so , it might be generous of them to defer the tax on the prize ("after all it's not really money is it, only shiny rock") until the winner converts it into financial assets or removes it from the country. This would ensure the gold is more likely to remain "in country if the need should ever arise", and less likely to be sold off too quickly affecting the market... Eventually taxes one way or another will return a fair share of it into the government coffers.

Your idea is too intelligent for the clowns running the BOE gold thrift sales to ever figure out. --Alan
