Larry, I'm not sure what measures Reno/Clinton have taken to ensure no recurrence of the Weaver or Waco situations, as I'm not an expect on the FBI's training and operational procedures then or now. It's possible much has been done to examine and "fix" what went wrong as all of these incidents are now many years ago, and I don't recall recurrences. I'm aware of many annoying things that go on in urban neighborhoods, but blaring loud music and propaganda is what is generally called a "public nuisance." The MOVE members got an instant death sentence for this carried out by incineration. Seems a wee bit of an overreaction. My primary point in bringing up MOVE was to illustrate that law enforcement screw ups occur everywhere: for example, New York police, who respond to a large number of what they perceive to be dangerous situations, have shot and killed many by accident, the most recent being unarmed immigrant Amadu Diaullo, shot 41 times in a vestibule after coming home from work. So, terrible screw ups happen everywhere. Clinton didn't direct or delight in the killing of children, and I think many here go overboard and undermine their credibility in practically suggesting he did. Nor do I believe in a bloodthirsty Janet Reno (incompetent is more like it). As for politicians' reactions to these types of things, they seem pretty uniform: description of the event as an isolated incident, a general defense of the law enforcement body at issue, and a promise to investigate and adopt procedures to prevent recurrence. Then we generally hear nothing further until there's a recurrence. Let's get all the facts on Waco, and see who is to blame. I suspect an FBI coverup of gross incompetence, aggravated by Reno's own inadequacies. I think Clinton is a bit far removed from the operational decisions that were made, although it did happen on his "watch." Positives here include the fact of no recurrence in several years now, so perhaps there are better internal procedures.
