Amazon's first debt offering early last year was quite unusual: instead of raising money here in the US, where the internut mania was still incredibly strong, they raised it through an anonymous offshore offering. No records were ever reported to the SEC, since none were required. Over a billion dollars was raised.

That "money" was instantly laundered into AMZN debt securities, which were then converted into hard US cash as AMZN's stock kept rising above the conversion rate.

Now I have no *proof* of who the investors were, but for some reason Amazon decided to keep secret who provided the vast majority of its funding. No one, outside of that brokerage firm and Bezos himself, knows where the money came from.

My personal guess- this story will be on the cover of Time magazine when a connection is finally made. Whether Amazon's money was from drug lords, or from diverted IMF funds invested by the russian mob, it's going to be interesting to read about!!
