The only way StarOffice 5.1 will develop is if SUNW creates a mature product that is
as good or better than the MS Office suite. If you observe the layout and touch and
feel of the StarOffice suite it is uncanny how similar it is to MSOffice. There are, of
course, differences since it was developed independently (with a little copying I'm
sure). I believe I can learn to love it and understand how to maximize my use of the
software as time goes on. Yes, the fact that I can some day use a PC totally without
MS is a nice thought but I am still interested in the features and "ease of use" of the
software. Now remember it's FREE. Free is great to an extent, that is if it is useful. I
am intrigued how SUNW will pay such a large amount of money for StarDivision and
not sell "Shrink wrap" versions of StarOffice 5.1 or sell it over the net. Well they know
that Corel has essentially failed to compete with MS by selling their software. Don't
you think SUNW will take the wind out of their sails in their court arguments against
the tactics of MS? Aren't they doing the same thing or very similar thing as MS has
done to gain market share for StarOffice 5.1?
I guess, after a while they must "fight fire with fire". What are your thoughts
