[DLJ bullish on Amphenol]

NEW YORK, Jan 12 (Reuters) - Donaldson Lufkin & Jenrette said Wednesday that Amphenol Corp. should benefit from the marriage of America Online and Time Warner as the merger of Internet and cable will spur capital investment in products that allow data and video to be fed into homes.

--"The merger of Time Warner and AOL provides a new dimension to both short and long-term growth opportunities in the coaxial cable industry," said Mark Hassenberg, analyst at DLJ.

--Amphenol, one of the world's largest makers of electrical, electronic and fiber optic connectors, is benefiting from a sharp increase in investment by system operators to upgrade hybrid fiber coaxial cable networks, DLJ said.

--DLJ noted it expects Amphenol to post fourth-quarter earnings and sales that beat Wall Street targets. The firm rates Amphenol at a bullish "buy" and has a 12-month price target of $92 on Amphenol shares.

Analysts expect the company to report earnings of $0.70 for the quarter, according to First Call/Thomson Financial.

--"Favorable pricing, cost reductions and increased volumes should cause a substantially higher gain in profits," Hassenberg said. "We do not believe the current stock price reflects the company's current results or exciting opportunities."

--In morning trading, Amphenol rose 3-3/8 to 70-1/4, just off a 52-week high of 71-1/2 and up from a low of 30-13/16.
