The one thing everyone seems to ignore and never talk about is the fact that HP-UX will run natively on Merced. All current UNIX software running on HP UNIX workstations will run on Merced - unmodified i.e. no need to recompile.

That's actually just marketing BS (from HP). There's no compatibility whatsoever.

Eric - Re: " The one thing everyone seems to ignore and never talk about is the fact that HP-UX will run natively on Merced. All current UNIX software running on HP UNIX workstations will run on Merced - unmodified i.e. no need to recompile."

My understanding is that all HPUX code will have to be TRANSLATED from its current binaries to Merced binaries by means of a code translating software package developed by HP.

The existing HPUX code will not run directly on the Merced.
