I remember one Sunday night when I was still especially new to IRC and trading, I honestly can't remember if it was December of '96 or January of '97.

Anyway it was definitely a Sunday night and one of the greatest traders i have ever known through IRC announced with no fanfare whatsoever that the next day he would buy SIEB.

No one noticed.

The chatter was uninterrupted. Everyone was talking about politics or something.

Well I noticed. I looked at SIEB. I passed. I recognized the ultra low float as an interesting aspect, but it was only trading maybe 10,000 shares a day. I don't trade that way.

But you know it was a 2 dollar stock then ?

So, I was there, and this great trader was there, way before pristine.

It was an immaculate call.

My point is, chatrooms are not created equal. The media has an endless supply of ink, paper and bandwidth, and yet only the surface gets scratched.

I am not going to debate the merits or dangers of chatrooms. I will say though, that to generalize about them is to really miss the truth of the matter.

kind regards,

funk
