I can tell you that once you go broadband, you will never go back to what you now have.

I agree. I've had DSL for almost a year and feel exactly the same way. I do things online that I would never consider doing on even a 56K modem line. The other big difference is the always-on connection. Even if I'm working on something else, I often refresh the SI SubjectMarks page (which is almost always open) and read a message or two.

Among other things, I've become hooked on a few RealPlayer radio stations. Even on a fast connection the .ra sound quality is what might be called "quaint", but I'm old enough to remember the days of hearing AM music on cheap transistor radios. This is a similar sound. But some of the radio stuff on the the 'net is so unique that it's worth putting up with somewhat lower quality. (LA's KCRW late at night is my favorite these days.)

I also watch BloombergTV on Real during the day. I don't have cable, so I can't see CNBC. Bloomberg gives quick wrapup of the day in stocks that's very useful. On24 is another example of business news that's useful only with broadband.
