Bill, you are too pessimistic. Not even massive advertising dollars could sell New Coke. Why do you think that Hillary is invincible? Just because Bubba is still in office? But he is a better candidate, and the trick, for the Democrats, was to break the Republican lock on the South for Presidential elections. He brought the right qualities to the table. Plus, the euphoria over the Gulf War gave the public a false sense that Bush could do more about the recession, and that if he were not as vigorous domestically as internationally, it was because he didn't care. When Dole stood against Clinton, there were no galvanizing issues except dubiousness about character, and that one was tough to broach correctly. People rarely vote out an incumbent when things are on an even keel. As for the impeachment, people couldn't work up the conviction that perjury in a civil deposition was worth risking a recession and consequent unemployment. Well, I disagree, but then, I think Clinton is an even worse guy....Anyway, I don't even think that Bill could win in New York!
