No, HDR is not just a simple software upgrade. They have to change a few hardware things as well, but it can use all the same radio parts. the MSM3000 does not do HDR, but there may be a future MSM which does this along with voice. None of the equipment out there today does HDR.

The MSM5000 does the 1xRTT format and it is available, so this announcement by Sprint seems timely. I think the origianl rollout of 14.4k data is WAY TOO SLOW.

the way to get Sprint to push this is to get SOME KIND OF DATA out there and have people start using it and wanting it. then when Sprint sees the market by having people out front of their office pounding on the doors, they will roll out the next phase.
