Cormac,

Back in 1996, I was "day trading" using a Track On-Line RT DOS feed through a 9600 baud CompuServe node. When execution was getting near, I'd hit the Brown speed dial button and hang up over and over until the trigger hit. Could usually get an order in within 30-45 secs to a live broker. My holding time then was 1-2 hours and had little or no slippage when I did it.

Had friends with ETrade accounts who used to login and keep hitting that confirm order button again and again, which brought up a live quote on the spread. Cool technology <g>.

I have a clean ISP and run about 53k. eSignal is the weak link as their LII craps out for no reason. But my ISLD orders always show up in their book and the LII screen in under 2 secs and I've never had a problem taking out someone's order.

Absolutely agree that scalpers need better equipment. But many of us have learned over the last 3-6 months that there is more money to be made in "longer" positions (i.e. over 5-min).
