Gordon,
My views are complicated and not easily expressed in a short concise manner. I am a lawyer, after all.

"A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed."

I will say this:
I do feel that it is not a right that only extends to members of a well regulated militia. It seems to me, Hamilton indicates this in Federalist No.29.

There are different scholarly views on the Constitution and the amendments. I am in the camp that is is an living, breathing, evolving piece of paper.
