Did not come here looking for fruit, but looks like I got some sour grapes.

"Ban the Hot List."

They should keep it, IMHO. But they should add a "cold" list to balance it. A list of all the people who are not followed by anyone, threads with no posts, etc.

It might make more sense to list it in ranges -- people who are followed by 0 to 10 members, and the same with threads, etc.

just a thought...

now the preacher looked so baffled
when i asked him why he dressed
with twenty pounds of headlines
stapled to his chest.
and he cursed me when i proved to him,
then i whispered, "not even you can hide.
you see, you're just like me,
i hope you're satisfied."

I disagree, dear. I often check it out, as I do the list of new subjects, just to see what is going on. Every now and then, I have discovered really interesting threads that I did not know existed because of the *Hot List* so I have found it a boon. It has introduced me to people like Patrick Slevin and you, whom I probably should not have encountered except for a flurry of postings on an odd thread now and then.

As for the ego, remember what we did with Valentine's and why we did it?

And it's not always a pissing match that sends a thread to the top of the list. Sometimes the topic interests so many of the posters so much that it is their very interest and exchange of ideas that does it. (And draws the attention of anyone checking out the list with even more to contribute to the exchange.) And sometimes, as with Beltane, the posters are having so much fun that they post like crazy and hit the top of the list with their fun.

Cheeky, how about starting a thread for banning the hot list?

By the way, I have yet to see a post in a pissing match where the list was brought as "ammo", but I have not been following too many of the hot ones either.
