LOL...That's good!

>I like the cold list idea. Of course the opportunity for a pissing match still exists, because say I was on the cold list and somebody wanted to "get" me, they could start a campaign and get people to bookmark my name... and then the result is the no man's land between the hot and cold lists... where no one wants to be.<<

And that's when he is being mild about it!

"... and then the result is the no man's land between the hot and cold lists... where no one wants to be."

(no man's land, which, of course, is where most of us already are...)

Then the only solution is simply to publish everyone with their ranking, but do it by range. Use color codes. Start with White for the 0 to 10 range, then through the rainbow to black for those most peoplemarked. Do the same for subjectmarks.

It might also be fun to see some statistics on how many cross peoplemarks there are...in which poster X and poster Y have peoplemarked each other.

(I'm on a roll) We could even have a peoplemarking party someday. Give everyone magic markers and we can write our nicks on each other's foreheads...

"say I was on the cold list and somebody wanted to "get" me, they could start a campaign and get people to bookmark my name..."

You are fiendishly clever! I love that idea! Here's a twist on it: a contest to see who can peoplemark the most people. Divide the contest up by categories corresponding to the white to black ranges suggested above.

In about two weeks everyone would be in the black.

Problem solved.

<<I asked him why he was bothering with that call and his response was "LOL".>> Gee, Michelle, you elicited one of his more well reasoned and articulate responses.

What a slimeball he is.

The "attraction" for the first few on the hot list is there are a bunch of people out there who want to be told what to do, to make money without having to do any work or research, and have someone to blame other than themselves if things don't work out.

I'd still like to see the list be 'live' and for us to be able to say we want to see who is in the top 50-100 range, etc....

variables that can be entered live....

It's sort of dumb to just have the results of the query, when instead a simple 'select * from bookmark.. where, etc...' SQL statement could do the query on the fly for anyone asking the question.
