Gee, why start a business at all?

Exactly! I have always been able to think of plenty of reasons to be out of the stock market. The only problem is... I have to be in it to make any money.

Certainly there are plenty of reasons why GUMM might not work. But, if I thought that the odds of GUMM's success were only 5%, I wouldn't be in the stock...I believe Zicam's odds are greater than 50%...maybe far greater. Liking the odds of the company, I have a lot of shares....

Some people just want to own large cap proven companies. That is great for them. I would be board to tears only owning PFE, GE, and LU... I appreciate owning them but... GUMM is more interesting, for some of my money.

If I am wrong, eventually I will sell. Life will go on.

I don't think I will be wrong.

Mike

Howard your response below typifies your nature to defend GUMM and to oversimplfy real issues.
First, prove this is a problem to GUMM. They are not entering the gum market. They are entering the nicotine gum market. They have a lot of raw materials and contacts. They are not a startup. Gary Kehoe has a lot of contacts in the industry.
When raw materials go on allocation, companies in a growth mode have to hold back. This issue was a real issue 18mos or so ago and by the way PIB is what make chewing gum chewy.
Concerning lead times, configurations of part numbers, inventory, demand and so forth these are all important issues that effect the efficeincy and profitability of a manufacturing company. They also determine how much money the business needs to run.
You optimistically speculate on rapid growth of gumms business, which if it came to pass would greatly exceed what they have done in the past and you sweep under the rug important things like how much revenue, how much cost, how much capital and how much profit.
Last quarters 10 Q talked about how they hit their projections. Well what are the projections for the 3rd and 4th quarter (ie revenue, cost, capital and profit). This is what is worth talking about as it will determine the value of GUMM's stock
