Research firm Ovum foresees a huge boom in unified messaging and pegs the global market value at $31 billion by 2006. Growth in unified messaging--in which one text or voice message goes to a user's mobile phone, pager, email, and voice mail--will be driven by the desire to simplify communications. Ovum expects one-third of U.S. consumers and three-quarters of businesses to utilize unified messaging services by 2006.
