Weather it is the same people buying the books is of course, your opinion. I don't think it is. Even i it was the same people, A continuing interest in a subject over a long period of time doesn't mean that those people aren't learning or benefiting from that continuing interest. to say that it isn't doing them much good is very misleading.

Besides, These people don't have to become a "mini-me" version of the Dalai Lama, their very interest in the subject is enough to show their "moral bent". My contention is that society at large has a growing predisposition towards higher morality. Not necessarily that every step is a forward step, but that over large periods of time it is easy to see the inherent growth in humanity.
