Addressing a moderately-attended Janata Dal (U) rally at Sandur in Bellary, the Union Defence Minister said, ``What is her (Sonia's) contribution to the nation? Yes, there is one contribution -- the two children she gave birth to. She has contributed two people to the population of our country. Is there anything else?' Earlier, in a statement released from Chandrapur, Mahajan expressed regret over his reported remarks concerning Sonia Gandhi and Monica Lewinsky but maintained that he has never equated the two in election speeches in Maharashtra. ``I am extremely pained and anguished at being dragged into an unnecessary controversy,' he said. ``If some people have felt hurt because of this particular report, which is nothing but the inference of a reporter, I am sorry about it,' he said in the statement.
