chalu2 or anyone....

Of these quotes which one(s) do you consider to be the most extreme? (Or Stupid)

"Arms in the hands of citizens [may] be used at individual discretion...in private self-defense..."
--John Adams, A defense of the Constitutions of the Government of the USA, 471 (1788).

"The great body of our citizens shoot less as time goes on. We should encourage rifle practice among schoolboys, and indeed among all classes, as well as in the military services by every means in our power. Thus, and not otherwise, may we be able to assist in preserving peace in the world...The first step -- in the direction of preparation to avert war if possible, and to be fit for war if it should come -- is to teach men to shoot!"
--President Theodore Roosevelt's last message to Congress

"The very atmosphere of firearms anywhere and everywhere restrains evil interference -- they deserve a place of honor with all that is good."
--George Washington

"That the Constitution shall never be construed to authorize Congress to infringe the just liberty of the press or the rights of conscience; or to prevent "the people" of the United States who are peaceable citizens from keeping their own arms..."
--Samuel Adams in arguing for a Bill of Rights, from the book "Massachusetts," published by Pierce & Hale, Boston, 1850, pg. 86-87.

"The most foolish mistake we could possibly make would be to allow the subject races to possess arms. History shows that all conquerors who have allowed their subject races to carry arms have prepared their own downfall by doing so"
--Adolph Hitler.

"This Year Will Go Down In History. For The First Time, A Civilized Nation Has Full Gun Registration! Our Streets Will Be Safer, Our Police More Efficient, And The World Will Follow Our Lead Into The Future!"
--Adolph Hitler 1935 'Berlin Daily' (Loose English Translation) April 15th, 1935 Page 3 Article 2 by Einleitung Von Eberhard Beckmann - "Abschied vom Hessenland!"
And you know what followed that statement!!

And how about this gem? A freudian slip?

"We can't be so fixated on our desire to preserve the rights of ordinary Americans . . . ."
--William J. Clinton, USA Today, March 11, 1993.

<<Extremism is the enemy of reasoned judgment.>> I don't know about that, I find myself much like a great many of our founding fathers in a "freedom at any cost" belief, as thus very extremist. The wife & I were talking about this very subject several hours ago.

I find myself drawn to the writings , over & over, of Jimmy Buffett and Thomas Jefferson, and the contrasts are(at best) striking.

There are a great many of the western US I've lived around which hold the common view of; the least government is the best government. Many I've met, thought we could create a little chunk of heaven from the very depths of Hell itself were we simply left enough alone. Thus back to the contrast between Buffett & Jefferson and the state of bliss each thought they had created in their own "perfect" mythical state. I tried first to even imagine Jimmy in colonial Virginia then Tom in Margaritaville & my mind would simply not allow such pain to either I respect. Then I saw, in my mind's eye, them both able to enjoy long visits to my own dreamland chunk of heaven, (I know not the name, and only one direction on the compass) located somewhere well West of Langtree Tx & just North of Hell.

Yes, my friends, many do wish admitt it but, Clinton is as corrupt as was Nixon. Many who advised Carter as evil as those who advised Bush, & with each passing day, we the people, sell more of the very idea of Freedom. The greatest difference between Democrats and the Republicans is when the Republicans found out of the evil of Nixon, most fell out of line behind him while most Democrats have fallen more deeply in line behind Clinton chanting the mantra of
"its all about sex", and chanting it so rudely many others can not even be heard about his other evils.

The problem is: We have sold out, and sold out cheaply! At least, its because many of us have been lied to, and the lie has been told very well.

I believe in the 2nd amendment as deeply as the 1st or 10th & that the arm described there-in is my God given right.
