I have been running scan disk(thorough) for over 2 years using this method and have had no restarts during that period.I close all the programs running in my system tray by rt. clicking and using their close menu's,shut down all open windows, disable screensaver by using this simple program.also,of course close all open programs not reflected in system tray.Bring up Scan disk and run it.Takes about 1 minute to do all this.

hey hp,

i have had to close each app individually. on top of that, sometimes a couple of the programs won't close, even with 2 attempts, and a separate dialog pops up directing me to close the program there because it is not responding. somewhat frustrating, but seems to be the only way to go that i've been shown.

use 'end task'.

'shut down' will shut the puter down.

i'm referring here to the close program dialog that pops up when you press ctrl + alt + delete.

:)
