America Online and Radiant Systems Announce Strategic Partnership to Develop & Deploy Consumer Interactive Services for Point-of-Sale Devices
Business Wire - August 03, 1999 08:04
DULLES, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 3, 1999--America Online, Inc., (NYSE: AOL) today announced a strategic partnership with Radiant Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:RADS) for the development of consumer interactive services for deployment on point-of-sale (POS) devices. The multi-year agreement provides extensive promotional opportunities at the retail level and will potentially enable consumers to receive e-mail and other real-time information at retail locations around the world. As part of the agreement, AOL will make a strategic investment in Radiant Systems as well as fund and participate in a new joint venture.

Radiant Systems is a leading provider of integrated technology solutions that provide business management solutions at the point of sale for retailers worldwide, including thousands of fuel service stations, convenience stores, restaurants and entertainment venues. These systems will increasingly offer consumers interactivity -- be it checking their e-mail while refueling at a gas station or checking the latest news, weather or sports while seated in a pizza parlor.

In conjunction with the deployment of Radiant point-of-sale platforms enabling interactivity, multiple AOL brands will deliver value-added, consumer interactive services to high-traffic retail establishments worldwide. One immediate application of the partnership includes seamlessly integrating AOL Moviefone, the nation's leading movie listing guide and ticketing service, in Radiant hardware and software solutions for the movie theater industry.

The agreement is a further example of America Online's 'AOL Anywhere' strategy in which the Company looks for new and innovative means to extend AOL's trademark ease-of-use and convenience and become an even more integral part of people's lives. The partnership also supports AOL's multiple-brand strategy and provides extensive promotional opportunities at the retail level.

"We're thrilled to be working with Radiant on new and innovative platforms to market and deliver convenient interactive experiences to millions of consumers whether they're online or in line at a movie theater, restaurant, convenience store or gas station," said Donn Davis, Chief Operating Officer of AOL Interactive Properties Group.

"We have designed and brought to market a number of interactive consumer devices, enabling retailers to better serve their customers. As we finalize our strategy for designing and connecting digital devices in the retail industry, it has become clear that a strong alliance with a provider of interactive services would help advance our vision. Our alliance with AOL will allow us to jointly deliver interactive services to consumers, and position Radiant Systems and its clients to benefit from the digital age," said Erez Goren, Co-Chairman & CEO of Radiant Systems.

BP Amoco selects Radiant Systems Development Partner as Global Supplier of Fuel Dispensers
Business Wire - August 17, 1999 09:21
ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 17, 1999--

Co-Developed Tokheim Pumps are a new Generation of Intelligent Devices

Radiant Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:RADS) announced today that BP Amoco has selected a Radiant partner company as its primary supplier of fuel dispensers in the United States, Europe and Latin America for the next three years.

The BP Amoco contract with Tokheim Corporation (NYSE:TOK), the leading supplier of fuel-dispensing equipment worldwide, comes eleven months after Radiant and Tokheim entered into a long-term agreement to develop a new generation of high-function, intelligent dispensers. "We are truly excited about our continued relationship with BP Amoco," said Douglas Pinner, Chairman, President, and CEO of Tokheim.

"We are equally excited that our joint development effort with Radiant Systems has started to impact our business with leading global clients." The new dispensers, which use the Microsoft Windows CE operating system and widely accepted Internet connectivity standards such as TCP/IP, XML and SMTP, provide unparalleled functionality in the areas of consumer presentation, system diagnostics, and remote support.

The intelligent dispenser system, for example, can automatically send an electronic message to alert its assigned support representative of an equipment failure such as a jammed receipt printer. Similarly, the dispenser could recommend preventive maintenance action based on customer usage or other factors. Radiant Systems partners with Microsoft Corporation to build intelligent, fit-for-purpose devices for the retail industry.

"Radiant's work on the Tokheim product line further demonstrates the potential for Windows CE to power a new generation of industrial-strength, Internet-enabled retail applications," said Jonathan Roberts, General Manager of the Productivity Appliance Division at Microsoft. "This new Tokheim fuel dispenser is a prime example of the added functionality a leading company like Radiant Systems can create using the Windows CE platform."

This co-developed product is part of Radiant's enterprise-wide "pump-to-president" solution for the petroleum and convenience store industry that includes consumer-activated technology, point-of-sale systems, site management software, pricebook management software, and decision support systems. Consumer-oriented features of the dispenser such as highly graphical, interactive user interfaces, integrated loyalty programs and on-island ordering capabilities enable petroleum and convenience store retailers to bring an enhanced shopping experience to their customers.

"As a retail technology provider to BP Amoco and a dispenser technology partner of Tokheim, we are excited about the unique opportunities this decision provides," said Mark Haidet, Vice President and Managing Director of the Petroleum and Convenience Store Industry Group at Radiant Systems. "Leveraging this state-of-the-art platform will allow BP Amoco to introduce strategic and operational innovations that will help reshape the industry."

Radiant Systems currently has point-of-sale technology deployed in approximately 400 BP Amoco sites in the United States.
