It does have to do with your neighborhood and what kind of lines are there. I get 53.3 from Earthlink and BellSouth in my neighborhood, but a friend in another development a few blocks away can't get close to that. I know people all over the country who can't get more than 28.8 with 56K modems, and they've tried various ISPs....I always advise people to ask their neighbors who they use, and what kind of speeds they get. That will tell you quickly what is possible on your block.

Good luck.

Len

Ken,

I was at 26K max ever since they came out with 28.8 modems. US West just put some new fiber optic lines this spring and one day, my baud popped through to 53K. I asked the US West guy about it and he thought the lines would LOWER the baud, not raise it. So my block is a fluke in their diabolical plan to return all of us back to the stone age.
