I2: RE:< The 1976 market >

The graph of the S&P500 in my investment text ("Investment Analysis and Portfolio Management" by Cohen, Zinbarg, and Zeikel - 1982 4th Edition) shows an up market during the first half of 1976, a top made as gold bottomed at $104/TROZ, then down, then a retest of the peak around November 1976, and then a bear market declining about 14 months until early 1978 upon appointment of Paul Volcker as Chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank. Of course this all occurred before Al Gore invented the internet which according to some has now has made the FED irrelevant.

I2 re"Interesting. I seem to remember that 1976 was a nice up year for the market"

I'm sure your correct since I show that high sentiment number occurring on 12/31/76 so I imagine the bear started essentially at the very end of 1976 or the start of 1977
