Well, Blue, it is hard to do double-blind studies of populations that have just been through a civil war. But folks on the ground consistently report that such upheavals do produce enormous numbers of "damaged" children. I personally doubt very much whether there would be anywhere near so many under "normal" circumstances.

Since the concept of "post-traumatic stress syndrome" is relatively new, I wonder whether we can generalize about Holocaust survivors. Maybe only the toughest survived, for one thing. And then, what about those like Primo Levi, who committed suicide years later? Who never got over it, in other words?
