I think goto.com is setup in this way, where an advertiser can pay for placement within their search capability. I've never used goto.com myself but I have to wonder who would? Goto.com always comes up as an ideal short candidate because the model will be rejected by the user community (but that doesn't keep their underwriters from hyping the stock).

It would be quit fair to give a hypermart-only search engine one vote in the presentation of results in metacrawler, and the other search engines a vote also.
So hypermart customers who carefully registered their sites with search engines would see their sites prominently displayed on metacrawler, because several search engines would know about their sites.

The same approach could apply to all Go2Net properties, but hey I'm not the marketing department am i?
