DJ - I agree that the roots of this mania extend deep into the soil of America, with people who normally wouldn't be involved. Two ancedotal pieces of evidence:

1) While waiting at the doctor's recently, this very old woman, obviously quite ill, was telling the younger woman who drove her there that if the doctor didn't hurry up they wouldn't be home for the final hour of trading.

2) On our recent vacation, the husband-innkeeper of the Bed and Breakfast we were staying at, greeted us as we sat down for breakfast with a his observations on the first hour of trading. I was quite amazed.

The virus has reached many. I just feel as Wayne does that the ugliness will harm a lot of people who have no idea; however, I don't feel that sorry for them.

I guess that would be the correct first conclusion in moving towards a Buddhist view of the stock market.
