Whether Andy Grove can be construed to mean Willamette is ahead of schedule can be debated. That Intel needs it cannot.

As Wellington said to his subordinates at Waterloo, "Its Blucher or sundown by 2:00 pm".

( Of course the same can be said of AMD. It will have to be the Germans (Dresden) that saves their tail.)

I am quite sure that Willamette will be released ahead of schedule (early 2H next year). Intel must be pulling out all the stops on that project right now. I believe they were a little shocked that AMD actually delivered the Athlon when they did.
