THIS WEEK IN THE FRONT OFFICE The News AMR Research's Report on Application Spending and Penetration by Vertical Market, 1999 was released this week with the results of a survey of 800 companies' spending habits. It shows that ERP still gets the lion's share of enterprise-wide apps dollars, with 43% of IT budgets going there. CRM spending comes in second at 17%. Not to be outdone by AMR, Aberdeen Group's A Guide to Customer Relationship Management Professional Services: 1999 Edition is also hot off the press. It shows that the rate of growth for CRM among IT professional services firms is second only to e-commerce. Siebel announced that OnTarget, a global sales training and consulting firm, "will develop and promote its products, services, and solutions in conjunction with Siebel Sales Enterprise." Remedy released its Remedy User Client for the HP version of Unix, version 4.0. "This native Unix interface for Remedy's Action Request System(R) (AR System(TM)) enriches features and functions to help accelerate application development and simplify cross-platform deployment." The AR System is at the core of all Remedy modules. Remedy also announced an agreement with Spectrum, a Cabletron company, that will extend the partnership in which Spectrum's Gateway is integrated with the AR System to improve help desk management. "The Action Request System(R) (AR System(TM)) Gateway enables users to efficiently detect, track, and resolve network problems and service requests." Clarify announced that BreakAway Solutions will be its ASP for Clarify eFrontOffice. This allows smaller companies to outsource the hosting, implementation and management of eFrontOffice rather than use their in-house resources to handle the tasks. Siebel added another integrator to its value chain. With the portfolio threatening to break into new highs, I'll provide a detailed report Tuesday when we've got some end-of-month numbers. --Mike Buckley
