ted - re:Do I have this right?
That's how I read it. A friend at MSFT told me that CPQ first said they were dropping Alpha NT 32 bit but that the 64 bit decision had not been made. Then they came back last week and said that they had decided not to do an Alpha NT 64 bit product but would continue to do the development work.

That's also what this article says, so at least the info is consistent.

The argument that ISVs would not want to support two nearly identical platforms for 64 bit NT makes sense - CPQ has always had trouble getting "native alpha" applications for NT. Also, Intel has started a big ISV program for 64 bit development, and I would bet that most ISVs will take them up on the offer.

The bottom line for me is does this save money for CPQ, or generate more revenue with the same resource? If so I am in favor of it. I would like to see them make progress in reducing expenses as quickly as possible. If CPQ had reduced expenses by $300M in 2q, they would have made .12 instead of losing it and we would be in a lot better shape than we are in now.
