OFF TOPIC: Hi James, James, I was wondering who was going to point out "its not a job I'd want ". For that matter, neither would I....but the attitude I was taught was one of respect, and I think at times it can be our own attitude that brings out the best or worst in another person. With all due respect to your observation (because I, too, know what you say is correct), I have no criminal record what so ever, yet I have been stopped twice while walking home from a friend's house or work in the middle of the night (11 p.m. to 1 a.m.) by an officer who asked to see some identification. I complied although I'm pretty sure they had no right to do so. Appr. one week ago two officers, while I was unaware, came to the place where I am employed sometime during the night while I was working over to get some work caught up. They called two people to confirm that my presense in the building was justified. Why? About 12 years ago while living in an upstairs apartment house with a shared bathroom, I came out of said bathroom after bathing that evening. I encountered two individuals who asked if I knew if the guy who lived next to me was in his apartment. I told them I didn't think so. Within 5 minutes of entering my own 3 room abode, I heard something going on out in the hallway. I looked through the keyhole in my door and watched the two people I had just spoken to breaking into the apartment next to mine. I had no phone, and it is one of the few times I wish I had owned a gun. I called the police as soon as it was safe to leave. They told me they couldn't do anything until the apartment owner made a complaint. BTW, all of these incidents happened well past the age of 21. Yes, there are some good cops. Unfortunately, I've met more (I don't want to use the word "bad" because that would probably unfairly describe them).... inept(?) ones. I think my beliefs based on personal experience are well founded. There have been other incidents as well like the time our home was broken into and I thought for a minute there I was going to be arrested. Respect is something which I was also taught, so that is probably what has kept me out of jail. But fear is not respect, and frankly, that is what I have when it comes to police. Have enjoyed the past few days, but I think I'll bow out of this discussion. ---------------- P.S. to chalu2 If ever we find ourselves in disagreement, then I have only one thing to say.....UNCLE!!! <g> Some other time, some other place, Mike
