OT Jill, Selling puts on QCOM? Until a day ago, it is my largest stock holding and i am nervous about having such a large position in it. I am actually considering selling covered calls to protect against some downturn on part of my holdings. I won't have to deal with tax consequences in a tax sheltered account if the shares get called on me. THe premiums on the options are very large on Q.

I have been loading up on Intel and MSFT by selling off all my bond mutual fund holdings until Intel and MSFT reached the same weighting as QCOM in my accounts. Now these 3 combined make a little more comfortable.

No matter how much i love QCOM stock, it always kept me a little uncomfortable either because of its incredible run up OR maybe not understanding their business. This is probably because i don't believe it will stand up as well as "wintel" in the event of a market selloff.

Best of Luck with your plans for puts.

BTW--I make big swings in trading going from heavily weighted in one stock to nothing a few days later OR vice versa. Another advantage of tax sheltered accounts (at least until i withdraw some funds).
